Every car needs an MOT once it turns three years old, and again every year after that. Driving without a valid one can mean a fine of up to £1,000 and can invalidate your insurance, so it’s not worth leaving until the last minute. You can have your MOT up to a month minus a day before the current one expires and keep the same renewal date. Test earlier than that and the new certificate runs a year minus a day from the date of the pass.
The MOT checks safety and emissions standards. It does not cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox, so a pass is not the same as a service. Our servicing and diagnostics cover those.
